Bottom Door Seal for Sill post 2005 fit on 2003 model year?
Hi All,

I am refurbishing the doors on my 2003 110 and came across these bottom seals on LRParts marked as post 2005. They are obviously different and look much better than the twisted lip style seals on my car. So question is do these fit? The go up the side as well, how does that work with the standard door seals? I am obviously not too worried about having to drill a hole..

Finally, I know from experience that aftermarket (Britpart etc) seals tend to be too hard and only the original LR seals work well, does this apply to these bottom seals as well?

You might be able to fit them but you’d have to drill the holes in the door frame, and also cut the tails off where they go up the side.

I’ve seen them fitted to the sill instead of the door, again with the tails cut off.

I definitely wouldn’t buy Britpart ones

I have this mod on my to do list. Needs a little effort but fitting the Puma seals will have the best end result.

They fit ok on earlier doors also without cutting anything off (that completley defeates the object of them) Best to make a jig for hole drilling though from thin aluminium or plastic

Canada 2000 Defender 110 Td5 XS CSW Epsom Green
These will fit the early welded doors quite well. Just move the plastic clips to new holes on the rubber seal and line them up with the remaining holes on the bottom of the door when you drill out the OE bottom seal. Only two need to be moved. Quite easy really. After that only two holes need to drilled in your door frame, to secure the side plastic tab.

So, went out and did mine today on a 2004 Defender TD5.

I just ripped off the old rubber seals, and pulled out / drilled out the old rivets and marked up and drilled the new side holes.
All the original holes were fine, just needed new ones for the end bits.
Made sure all holes were 5mm, painted the holes and any bare metal and went to the next door.
When all doors done, went back to the start and now the paint was dry, fitted the seals.






Huge improvement, less sunlight in the footwell!

And all done and dusted in about 2 hours. All went far to well for a Landy job.

Interesting that all the bottom holes lined up - my truck is the same age as yours, but my doors were replaced about 5 years ago so I may or may not be as lucky as you.. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

But your doors are already the later style pressed ones which these seals are designed for. They must have been retrofitted onto your 02.

The flap seals look to have been on from new, and as I had to drill extra holes for the ends must have been like that from the factory. Maybe 02ish was a changover period.

The joys of Defenders is playing guess the spec. Rolling with laughter

Went out for a run today and much less drafty and I 'think' less road noise. Very Happy

The newer seals didn’t come in until 2012 or something like that, they had the simple rubber flap ones up to then, so your retrofitted doors were from a 2005-2012 vehicle.

A 2002 would definitely have had the old welded doors from the factory, with the exception of the rear tailgate which was updated from 2002 model year.

Hmm, you made me check now... registered 12/04, chassis number is 5A 69**** I made a mistake and blame night shifts.. Embarassed Sorry. Laughing
