Sweet ! Thanks. I had assumed that all S (1998) were 300tdi…

My car does have aircon - which seems to be working. Luxury in the world of defender I guess 😂

Very Happy Early TD5 on an S - yours was always TD5, has techno seats, larger side repeaters on the wings, I would expect td5 fuse box cover etc etc.

I’m trying to resist asking how much you want for the roof rack… Very Happy

It’s a really nice Defender Rivarama 👍

Looking forward to seeing your personalisation.

Good shout JeremyJ - I recognised that S BDU combination from fellow forum member SiCastle71. His 90 has a lot of unexpected extras.

I just checked the VIN and you are 100% right. Although the car was registered in 1998, it is indeed registered as a TD5.
So despite what the previous owner thought, that car was never a 300TDI but actually a factory car. It also explain why the car was fully optioned with all the Land Rover branded add-ins (bullbar, offroad lights, roof rack, roof rack lights, aircon etc etc etc…)

How cool… what I thought was a little Frankenstein is actually a very special car !!

Indeed - far from being a Frankenstein - more of a Princess…

Enjoy 👍

Now that I know the history, it does feel like a sacrilege to remove all those parts from the car… big dilemma !!

The roof rack isn’t really practical as the car doesn’t fit in the garage, carport or office car park…

Decision decision

Don't feel bad about loosing some old and tired accessories, it looks better without the roofrack already.
I hope you will ditch the plan for leather, and resist the temptation for cosmetic changes. The Techno trim you have is still available for a "as new" refresh.

The colour is great, but I'm biased on green Defenders that have a standard, unmodified look. Thumbs Up

How can I find what number did my car come out on the production line? Would anyone know what was the VIN number of the first TD5 ever made?

I am tempted to cancel my order of M&M canvas covers and get new techno seat covers throughout… I could always do that later I guess.

I really like the look of simple defenders. Simple and understated is what make those cars special and classless to me. The safari gear is great for press cars and to try to impress with a new model release I guess. And thats not as practical to use everyday Smile

The more I look at that heritage 110 I posted above and the more I like the wheels on my car… I might skip the whole wolf rims thing for now.

Keep the feedback coming it’s useful ! Thanks

I think unless you have a real grotty job, them get your seat recovered and refoamed for the drivers seat. Seat covers aren’t as nice as the original material in my experience. I would as you say consider keeping it basically as it is, if you are happy to. The rack, winch doesn’t matter, but the basic vehicle should ideally stay as it.

But then again I altered my “Special Vehicles” limited addition Defender Embarassed Embarassed

Enjoy
Andy.

I am in touch with the S BDU club indeed but pin pointing the start of the td5 production number is near impossible.

Also forgot to mention that the car also came with ABS… makes the wife happy (safety for the kids and all that)

Looking forward to hearing more - it’s really interesting even for others who aren’t fortunate to own an S BDU! Bow down

ABS is a rude word to me at the moment Rolling with laughter

Good luck with your search.

Ok - I removed most of the stuff that needed to be removed. I think it looks much more low key now. Obviously I am keeping all the original parts in the garage as they are also what makes this car special.
