low coolant warning light
Had this about 4-5 times. Warning light comes on after bouts of hard acceleration during a series of overtakes. Checked level each time and its still on maximum.
Land Rover dealer is going to replace the whole header tank which are on back order so will have to wait until the New Year. 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.

So despite agreeing to replace the whole header tank unit, having waited months, the dealership only ordered a replacement sensor and pressure cap. Low and behold the same fault is still present. The vehicle has been with the dealership for 2 days and now I have to wait for the header tanks which of course is on back order. Banging Head 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.

Can't see it being a fault with the header tank, in what way could it be faulty? lt's just a plastic tank. Unless JLR have since modified the part to reduce the chances of a false coolant warning.

l hope they manage to repair it though.

Top it up just a little more, perhaps 5 / 10mm above the level but no more than that.
It’s likely the fluid moving around triggering the switch, you can get similar occur with brake fluid headers.
Triggering the warning light to come on if you go downhill as an example due to fluid movement, a little top up will often cure it even if it seems practically on max level mark. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Hi All,
Just been reading the post and my P400 seems to have the exact issue. It’s been in for pressure tests after loosing coolant and found to have a faulty hose. Since then, the hose was replaced and more pressure checks and came back all good.
However the coolant lights and warning keeping coming back on, once or twice a day, just as I seem to let go uphill…. I think. Checked the coolant and all seems good.
Just came back from the dealer after they replaced the sensor and on the way home, the light and warning came on again.
No idea what the problem can be, any ideas. The dealer said possible air bubble but not sure what action I should take next.

The combined header tank + sensor is on back order in the UK but the dealership has been notified that they have an allocation so booked in at the end of March......no loan cars until July!!!!! Borrowing a demonstrator instead.

Since replacing the sensor as the first attempt at repair the frequency of warnings has shot up.

I can't see it being an air bubble as that should have cleared.

It would be interesting to have a video of what is going on with the levels of fluid in the header tank while the car is driven. The warnings appear 20 seconds or so whilst cruising after an fast overtake or acceleration. Doesn't show up when going over rough terrain. 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.

I’ve just cleaned mine, and no warnings today.
But that could be purely coincidence

Coolant warning light been coming on at start up for the past week. 110 D300. Checked fluid levels and it's sitting on the Max line. Called Hendy in Salisbury who have booked it in for mid March but wanted to get it looked at faster than that so they called LR Assist for me who called me back within 5 minutes and will be here inside 2 hours. Quite impressed with that level of service.

I suspect it's a dodgy sensor and not a major issue, but hopefully they will confirm and put my mind at rest. I've got about 2000 miles to do between now and mid March and would worry if the warning light was on at every start up. Will let you know what happens.

LR Assist have been. Plugged in. No stored faults in the system and all modules reporting green and up to date. He took out the coolant tank, checked the connection which was fine and concluded it was a coolant sensor issue. Now booked in to have the sensor replaced at the dealer. 2001 110 TD5 (sold)

The plot thickens a little...

Did 400 miles this weekend and the warning gradually came on more often to the point that by the end it was permanently on. I thought I probably had a leak. Checked the fluid when I got home and still on the Max line.

However, checked it again this morning when the engine was cold and it's just above the Min line. Popped into the dealer to get some fluid and spoke to the guys in parts. They told be the level should only be checked when the engine was cold and then topped up to the Max line. I think I have always checked it when warm and found it to be on Max.

So tomorrow morning when it's all cold again I will top it to the Max line. I've got 1000 miles to do this week which will be a good test to see if the warning light comes on again and whether it has lost any fluid after 1000 miles from a known datum as the starting point.

At the moment I'm not sure whether I have a dodgy sensor or whether I have a leak or both. 2001 110 TD5 (sold)

Problem solved with new header tank. Thank goodness it was done under warranty. They also did a couple of recall wired updates as well. 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.
