DPF regeneration
l believe that an increased idle speed and no stop/start is due to the DPF regeneration taking place.
lf this happens, should l keep driving until it's finished or just ignore it and stop the engine when l reach my destination, even if the idle speed is still high.

I’ve usually just switched off but probably not the best practice, though it’s few and far between that it does a regen as I reach my destination. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Unlike many engines the 3.0 lngenium in my D250 appears to be able to complete a DPF regeneration even when sat with the engine idling.

The RPM rise but only a little, sitting at about 800 rpm. You can smell the process as it comes to the end. And also it uses a fair bit of fuel, while doing so.

lt's clearly better designed than the 2.0 lngenium fitted to other LR products. l guess it's about time though.

I've done 18,500 miles since I bought mine last October. Never notice DPF regen at all. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

lt's barely noticeable. The stop/start doesn't work and the idle speed is slightly higher, if you end up stopped for any reason.

There's no other indication except l do get a hot smell at the end, but again only if stationary.

Never noticed it in c. 70k miles on mine so I presume it’s fairly low key. It barely uses any adblue either, I’ve only topped it up twice in that time.

There’s a slight throaty exhaust note and as said a hot smell. According to the manual there’s supposed to be a green light on the dash that shows a regen is complete. Never seen it on any LR. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

1,200rpm seems a little high.
My D300 does it around 800 rpm.
Likewise, there's a tad bit of noise and smell, and the stop/start is disabled.

Sorry my mistake it is 800rpm (changed my post above as well)

LR Remote app reports the state of the DPF and it always says mine is "clean and efficient"

l have to go back 52 journeys in the app before l find one over 10 miles! So there's no need to worry about the DPF on the 3.0

That was why l didn't get the VW Transporter. lt can't cope with this kind of use without doing a longer journey every few days.
Also
The DPF in the Transporter won't regenerate at low speeds. Over on the VW forum people are complaining about this in Wales with the new 20mph limits.

Chatting with an LR Assist mechanic today, I asked him about the lengthy service schedules. HE told me that if the DPF cleaning cycles aren't completed, fual used in the cleaning process ends up in the sump, mixing with the engine oil - there's a sensor to check if the dilution percentage hit 5-6%, at which point an engine oil service advisory will come on.

I was really surprised to hear this, but did indeed find similar confirmation elsewhere.

Given that I do a lot of short runs in my vehicle - not ideal to complete full DPF cleaning cycles, it has gotten me a little nervous..

There is no sensor - it is a model in the control module but if it’s required the service light will come on before the 2 year 21k intervals

So drive it and when the light comes on service it - simple

I've had the oil changed at 5,000 and 10,000 miles

There was no noticeable rise in the oil level that l could see, after 5,000 miles.

However the vehicle is now saying it needs a service at 14,000 miles (it wasn't reset after the oil changes as it wasn't a service, just an additional oil change that l wanted done)

I’m noticing DPF regen happening a lot, pretty much every journey in fact. Tends to occur after 15-20 minutes when using a light throttle. It’s very obvious when you have the instant mpg showing in the display - instead of say 35-40 mpg (on a level road), it drops to around 20mpg. Usually it will last for 5 mins, then goes back to normal. No dashboard messages.

Is this normal? Does the fact that I am gentle on the throttle mean it’s more likely to happen?
