Land Rover lights have always been poor. I think that I have had to upgrade the lights/bulbs on every model I have owned….

So is it now legal to have lights mounted that high up which display a supposedly dipped beam? It certainly wasn't not long ago (in fact it wasn't legal to have lights mounted that high for road use at all not long ago).

It's always been legal to have lights at high level but only if they are linked with the main beam. High level dipped beam lights are definitely illegal, though. Not that anybody enforces this stuff, of course Rolling Eyes Darren

I'm was thinking of this sort of solution on the black Defender.

I have the matrix lights on an RRS and they are excellent. Hopefully yours just need turning on Walfy.

I also have the Matrix lights and they are fantastic, much better than I've had on anything else and they work flawlessly blanking out cars coming towards you or when you catch a car up Thumbs Up One way to tell if they are activated is that when you are out and about in the dark with no street lamps the blue high-beam light will stay on even when cars are coming towards you, the matrix system then moves the beam about to stop it dazzling oncoming vehicles and vehicles you are following. You can see parts of the beam spread going dull and then brightening back up. Cheers Ian

Yes I agree the Matrix LEDs are brilliant and it can become a bit mesmerising watching them do their stuff.

My Matrix lights are good, but not as good as the ones I had in my XC60. As well as being Matrix they were also Adaptive, I.e swilled when cornering, Best lights I’ve ever had and that was on a car that was 5 years old. 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

Had a look at the settings and they had been enabled, looking at pics online I have the ball/lense thing in the centre rather than not so assume they are matrix.
Drove home and I managed to get the lights to show the icon with auto underneath it, but it didn't get dark enough to see them in action.
I have an early start tomorrow with a site visit to Princetown so will see if they work then. 110 D250 SE HT

So drive from Frome to Princetown this AM really early. The matrix lights did work, but are pants. If I had come from the Puma 11 alone then I'd be impressed but as I also drive an XC60 the lights on the new Defender aren't that impressive. The XC knocks them out of the park.
So for me currently, it was a wasted £700 for the matrix lights 110 D250 SE HT

Sadly I agree. Having had the matrix lights on the XC90 and seen how good they were, the Defender's are not in the same league, hence my thinking about Lazer lights to supplement them.

I think I might go the same route, as long as they act the same as the main lights and dip automatically.
After watching the links you posted Moo, it seems they do, I'm just wary about cutting into the loom though.

Have you set the lights on auto setting? I had an iPace with matrix lights and not inferior to those on my wife’s c40. Which of course only proves that JLR can do matrix lights, not that they are great in the defender. And they may be better on the xc60 than the c40

The Lazer linear elite with dip beam assist is amazing for its size offering much better light output both on main and dip than any OEM headlight

Have you had them installed? If so, how easy was it?
