My neighbour bought one last year (he's been riding since stonehenge was built, builds Harleys for a living, custom ones)

He loves it. he's just getting into laning (although used to do enduro stuff in his youf').

I'm after a DRZ400 myself, although I'm quite large (6'5" 16.5 stone), I used to have a KLR250 which was too small in the frame for me, the Honda looks physically similar sized to the DRZ

I do forget I am tiny at 5’7”

5"7" on a CRF! Well done sir!

Fancy bringing it North for a DEF2 CRF outings? Plenty of great trails here Smile Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Def something worth a go. This post has renewed my interest. Might treat myself to the 300, my 250 is pretty old and bashed about now. Other bikes have had my attention instead.

I have bigger (road) bikes too, Rob. The CRF has been great to get me into trail riding.

I have had naughty thoughts about a GasGas ES 700 or a Husky 701 but I doubt I'll ride any better or go any faster. The wee CRF is plenty for the trails, and the long service intervals and Honda build quality make it a shortlist of 1 really. Maybe KTM will bring a more trail-focussed 400cc bike out soon, or maybe the new Bimota 450 will get to the UK. But just now the little CRF's are about the best out there for the guys who like to tootle around. I reckon I'm getting over 90mpg (even tho my trips almost always involve an off-road ride), and very low running costs...

Don't know if you guys are following Itchy Boots, but she's just completed a 42,000 km (36k miles) trip on a CRF300 - almost entirely off road. South America to Alaska. It's addictive watching once you get hooked!

There's dozens of detail sections, or this one "movie" of the best bits. I watched them all!!! She started on a RE Himalayan about 4 years ago, then a CRF250, then a CB500X, but since COVID she's done it all (36000 miles) on a CRF300 - Season 6 is all on the CRF. There's a couple of nice threads showing the mods she has done, and the problems that needed fixing after 36k miles... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

She was in the next garage at a track day at donington.

If I was going bigger it would be the husqvarna. They looked great at the nec. I think they are basically a ktm. But there’s something that attracts me to the husqvarna brand.

Yeah Rob, the KTM 690, the GasGas ES 700 and the Husky 701 are all the same basic bike. There's a few "tweaks" between the models, but same frame and engine. Some say the KTM is more full-on and "ready to race", the Husky has slightly softer suspension and a softer engine mapping to make it more of an ADV bike than a race bike. The Gasgas is the cheapest, even tho it's the same bike, it's £1k cheaper (because it's red Smile) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)
