Importing used parts
Hi I’m wondering if anybody knows anything about importing car parts from abroad I’ve been offered some 1967 body panels as I wish to bring to the UK from Germany
However looking online I may Need the seller to have a eori number . which he doesn’t have it is a private seller selling his own used parts also when coming into the UK I may have to pay VAT does anyone know if this is the case

In theory yes, but if you're collecting them yourself especially in a private car not really a problem.

Since Brexit in all the times we've bought stuff back the French Duane aren't interested at all and last time when I tried to declare I was taking power tools temporarily back to the UK they were mildly amused and had never seen that form used before.

UK customs are only really interested in people and commercial quantities of stuff, we took a big metal lathe plus a load of spare bike engine castings with no issue.

Don't forget you have £300 odd 'duty free' allowance as well - I'm sure a scrappy load of old series parts are below that value, its not like they're series one or anything interesting Mr Customs Officer, honest!

I have experience importing into EU from UK.
In the EU there is no such duty free limits, and every thing is taxed.

I have been given for free a Defender part from a very kind member on this forum. We made a zero invoice according to the laws. But that was not accepted, and had to pay vat on some form of value that customs decided upon. Even worse, the service fee to pay customs was more expensive than the vat itself.

Another case was where I bought from a UK shop, paid local vat on checkout, shipped ddp. DHL made a mistake so charged me vat and customs clearance. When I asked them why, they said sorry, we cannot reimburse vat. And then shut the phone on me. Great service by DHL. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I looked at sending some larger bits to the UK using La Poste and found that if it is private to private you fill out some form with a nominal value which if you keep it reasonably low for used parts probably sails through. All of this stuff is more relevant to business sellers

Germany however I find has very expensive postage package rates so if the parts are large how do you plan to get them to the UK?

I'd go and get them, unattached body panels don't like being shipped about. 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.

1989 Ninety 200tdi - Love it - Second best car I have ever owned.

1951 80" Series 1 - Love it - Third best car I have ever owned.

It’s quite a big pile of parts I’m now thinking of taking the van and trailer and picking it up

There is a personal duty free allowance but as I said you must be collecting it in person and it varies if you're on a plane, by rail or car ferry.

https://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-...at-Britain

You're quite correct via post / DHL etc, tax on duty plus tax double the amount you first thought of then add VAT!

Collection in person is the way to go, get a holiday into the bargain.
