Hi all,
This may be a silly question, but I've just failed a WOF (NZ MOT) because my driver's seat belt occasionally gets caught in the door latch and has some minor damage to the belt. The passenger side doesn't get caught. Is there a fix for this problem apart from always remembering to check the seat belt has retracted properly before shutting the door? 2016 Puma 2.2l 110SW |

X-trouser works for me also stopped me catching my trouser belt hoops DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Mine does it too. I got an advisory for a worn belt on the MOT a couple of years ago, but stangely not mentioned on subsequent test. I think the root cause is the recoil spring has lost some strength and doesn’t fully retract the belt the last little bit. I’ve just found the answer is to just get in the habit of giving the belt a bit of assistance to recoil fully before closing the door. I’ll probably get around to buying and fitting a new belt at some point. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

going to sound strange but sometimes cleaning the belts will help, they get caked in all dust, mud crap etc, and over the time this means when rolled up its larger and hence does not all fit in easily and you need to assist it to return, cleaning the whole belt can sometimes reverse this issue.
It helped with mine before I installed the recaros, now they get stuck on the recaro adjuster  Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Just slide the seat belt into the incline/decline lever on the side of the seat and it keeps it away from the door and doesn’t interfere with anything.

If you go with the x-catch things, which I had on my 110, take a bit of time to double, double check the old, original striker location and carefully mark it before undoing it.
It took me ages to find the correct latching position again and get the doors to shut nice and tightly on a single slam…. became a bit of a weekly ritual for a while - adjust, check and adjust again. Got there in the end…. I also had an MOT failure on damaged belts. It’s all part of the special experience….. |

terrific, thanks all, will give suggestions a go, don't fancy replacing the seat belt every year or so.....
