Ford obviously trying to cash in on the retro-lifestyle market. Good! We need to more characterful cars on the road. Going back 50 years or so we must be living in the bleakest period for car design and ownership.
When I lived in the US the new Bronco came out, saw it but never up close. Then a rental place in Abu Dhabi had a few so I had a good look. It is very Jeep Wrangler like. First I though it was a Chinese Jeep knock-off, but no - it looks well made. For sure it is not in new defender territory. We had Jeep Wrangler in the USA long wheelbase. It's what you would expect the Defender to has been post 2006. Better, but still clunky and no hiding it's 1950's origin. If I could not buy a Defender (and I mean the original Defender), I would buy a Wrangler, but then maybe the Bronco would be a good alternative when they become available used. Obviously I would not buy a new Defender, I am sure they are fine, but at that point I would just get a Range Rover or an LR4 (Oh sorry Discovery 4) had those great cars and not too expensive to buy. (Never a new car, because I would not tie up too much of my cash in a depreciating asset with little added value). |

That's really weird, Ford drops it's best selling product in Europe - the Fiesta- and decides to import a vehicle that it never intended to.
Scaling back, moving up market and cutting out loyal customers at the lower end of the price scale.... This seems to be standard practice when an automaker is in trouble these days.  |

The Bronco SPORT, based on the Ford Focus platform would make a good Freelander 2 replacement.

Always thought that the original Freelander was based on the focus platform so that would make good sense - unless JLR are going to do a deal, rebadge it, add some pleather trim add £30k and sell as new Freelander?

The original Freelander was a Rover Group vehicle, designed before even BMW owned Landrover.
The Freelander2 and Evoque, were designed during the Ford ownership period and are based on the 2006 Ford EUCD platform, as was the Mondeo and Volvo 60 /70 / 80 series of that period. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_EUCD_platform |

According to early information, the Bronco will have a starting price of about €60,000 in Germany, which corresponds to around $63,270 with the current exchange rates. For comparison, the base two-door model in the United States starts at $32,295 for the 2023 model year.

There’s one parked just up the road from me here in Luxembourg, much smaller than I was expecting, you see quite a lot of big American SUVs here you just don’t see in the UK, it’s smaller than most of them.
If it’s not officially released in Europe I wonder how this guy got one? Must have been very keen to import it himself. I think the one up there road must be the Sport which explains why it’s smaller than I expected |

Having just got back from Florida there were lots of the smaller Bronco Sports and Broncos.
The doors come off the larger Broncos as they also do come off the Jeep Wranglers. I think they are a nice looking car based on previous models. It does not come with a transfer box and low range. In Florida there were many with the roofs and doors off!!!! Cheers Don. |
