TD5 - AC upgrade - Grill upgrade required?
Hi,

just ordered the AC LHD upgrade kit at LRparts.net. Figured I'll do myself a favor and put that in before I drop the in rebuild process engine into the chassis. As there is the cooler element to go in front of the radiator - do I need to replace the front grill element as well? or does it have enough space with the factory front? Online i read both that it fits and not .. so i'm not 100% sure if it goes.
Given i'm ordering also new doors I might just add that part on the shopping list as well (LR401M)

thanks for the shared insights Td5 110 Station

Have you bought this kit?

https://www.lrparts.net/da2342l-land-rover...tment.html

The description says that an extended nose cone is not required so you should be fine. When I added AC to my Td5 I used genuine parts from various different sources so I did opt to change the nose cone assembly...no point in having AC and not letting other Defender drivers know you've got it right? Very Happy

Yes Exactly this one. I had noted the comment on the condenser unit. But its alway good to check what the experiences of fellow owners is / was with the builds. Nothing more cumbersome than starting to plug in everything to realize that I forgot something ... given I'm based in Switzerland, every additional order results in one additional week of delay / waiting time

On another note: its interesting that the same Kit has an online price range of 2.6k to 3.6k pound ... Td5 110 Station

I guess the price variation comes from some sites displaying prices including UK VAT (20%) and some don't.

Having the AC front grill “bump out” part is easiest. You can install AC using the regular grill but there will be a lot of messing about. Its just easier.

Good luck (you’ll really enjoy having the AC plus the benefit of a quieter ride with the windows and vents closed) 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Thanks!
I'll order one just in case along the other parts ... prefer safe to sorry and pay double shipping and time along the way ... Td5 110 Station

Remember that you need the lower AC grill with the surround. There are also 2 brackets (plus screws and spire nut plates) but these last are easy to get and make.
The original AC grille that fits in the lower part of the surround is aluminum, but goes powdery in short time. The aftermarket stainless steel are better quality. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
