Door Switch EARTH
Quickly diagnosed an alarm and interior light fault which looks to be due to a mashed up door light/alarm switch (see photo). The switch was earthing when the door was shut (so the vehicle thought the door was still open).
Anyway, the switch earths through the fixing screw, but the screw hole in the bodywork is now damaged and too large to either fix the switch securely, or provide a reliable earth.
Access is difficult to the rear of the screw hole. Any tips for how to provide a better fixing/earth here?
Just use a bigger screw is the obvious one, but the I/D of the hole in the switch unit prevents this.
Any thoughts/advice appreciated- I suspect someone has found a simple solution to this issue before me!

Rotate the switch 180 degrees and drill a new hole for the screw...might not be too pretty

I've not had the problem or ever had to fix it.
First thought, turn the switch upside down and fix with a new screw position above the plunger.
Check clearances and wire length. May need protection on the wire to prevent rubbing on the screw.

Just beaten with the post!

Why didn't I think of that?!!!
Should work- I don't think it will foul on anything if rotated 180.
Thanks!

Alternatively, drill out the hole in the A pillar and install a rivnut of an appropriate size to suit the hole in the switch (M4, maybe?). Darren

Riv nut probably the belt and braces approach- good idea. Would provide a better fixing and improved earth via a machine screw.
