RAI snorkel for 2009 PUMA D90 XS
Hi
Someone is selling me a BEC snorkel.
In the manual it says that is made for 110 TD5 5 cylinder 1999 onwards.
I have a 2009 PUMA D90 XS STATION.
The guy says that it fits and is ok.... I really don`t have a clue, its my first D90.
Anyone can help me with this?
I think BEC is a cheap company from Taiwan.
Does it matter? I mean it`s just a piece of plastic.
Anyone knows this company?
Do you think it can be installed in my D90?
I upload 5 pics, please check them (RAI album).
Thanks!! One life, live it.

It is just a piece of plastic!!!!!

How many plastics do you think there are???

Lets just say that there are more then one or two.

Different plastic behave in different ways.

Polythene is used in supermarket carrier bags. Polythene is also the plastic used in synthetic winch lines but it is not the same type of polythene!

A quick google on BEC snorkel or BEC raised air intake gets no hits on the first page.

Would I fit it on one of my vehicles? NO!

Would I risk my engine on an unknown snorkel? NO

Looking at your photos it appears to be a rip off of a Safari Snorkel. Have a look at the Safari website HERE Read the Don't get burnt links.

Do YOU want to risk ruining your expensive engine with a cheap inferior snorkel.

I came across this thread yesterday and didn't even think it warranted a response.....some people are just unbelievable! Question Either blinded by a billy bargain or have serious misgivings when it comes to common sense.

Brendan has hit the nail on the head.....Stick to items that have been proven and have notoriety and a history....a quick search on here or any any of the other myriad of Land Rover forums out there.....see what other members have to say about the item and make a sensible decision.

It'll be easier to fit...bought for the vehicle you own and save you effort and time trying to get assistance adapting something to fit your vehicle!

Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Some good points re quality but it may be a bit harder to get genuine Safari stuff in the Dominion Republic so people take what they can get. John

Better to do without and run it as standard rather than compromise the integrity and reliability (no joke intended! Laughing ) of the vehicle! Surely? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Excellent opinions!
Thanks all for your time to help me.
Yes. We can get here in Dominican republic the original land rover or the safari snorkel, its just that they have a different price. 3 times more than this.
I guess that price is relative if you are getting quality.
Thanks! One life, live it.

In a previous existence I used to do research into plastics.

We had a company that come along with a problem with polycarb emergency light.

On investigating the problem we found that they had used 4 different suppliers of the polycarb and three different moulders! Our conclusion was to buy a decent grade of polycarb with good molecular weight and not the cheapest. Also stick to a decent moulder.

They were not happy with our conclusion and our bill of several thousand £s. So the bean counters had saved a few £/tonne but caused all sorts of quality issues.

Buy cheap etc.

I would agree - at the time I wasn't sure if Max had any other option where he was. As he has now confirmed he can get a decent one then it's a no brainer. Thumbs Up John
