Got a Britpart galvanized kit DA1186.
Galvanizing was good and went in without a hitch. I painted them black for that original look. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Gywn Lewis on mine too.

I’ve put isolators on too.
I did it at the same time as I took the 2 inch lift off.
I now have standard springs and OME shocks (all pin to pin). 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

Aside from being able to see the new shocks you've just fitted, is there any real reason to change from the original type turrets to the 'heavy duty' types pictured in this thread?

Appreciate if your originals are rusty then they need replacing, but is it just a 'whatever you prefer' type piece, or is there actually an issue with the original design.

Obviously for more extreme vehicles and those with big lifts etc, then the standard turret is not suitable any more.

I'm asking as I'm about to order up new springs and shocks, and everyone else seems to replace lots of the bolt on hardware at the same time. Mine's 2014 so fairly late model, and all the hardware is in good enough condition that it could be reused. I don't want to put it all back together and then find out why I should have replaced more bits!

They all come off when you replace the springs and shocks. As the originals on mine were 20 years old , I thought it was a good time to replace them with new ones.

As yours are only 8 years old they are probably ok. I’d put new spring retainers on though. 2002 td5 90 county hardtop

The cylindrical turret design can collect crud inside and rust out the shocks. In fact, the original turrets usually rust from within.

What I took off my old 90 a few years ago:

I fitted galv turrets to mine as I got them at the right price from a gentleman on here (they were drilled wrong but I just used decent washers).

I would have gone for the open type to allow better cleaning and application of rust inhibitors, but whatever I got they would be galvanised.

I know galvanised isn't the bright colours that some seek, but painted ones tend to change to rust anyway

Just got to be run-of-the-mill galv items IMO for standard application requirements. If the shiny galv finish offends you and you can't wait for them to weather in and get crudded up then paint them.

By the way, for painting new shiny galv use a T-wash/Mordants treatment first then your paint won't come off. It was recommended to me by a professional decorater years ago. They use it for painting galv roller shutters on shop fronts etc. I was sceptical but used it to treat the rear cross member of my galv chassis and it works brilliantly. You can see the galv change colour as it chemically etches/bonds/conditions the surface and the paint just sticks to it. Now a few years on and still no flaking/peeling/bubbling despite numerous scrapes and chips from off-road abuse.

Never seen it mentioned on here?

I still have 95% of a bottle left from that one use.....

100% as I Like Old Skool says regarding painting galv. Thumbs Up

I used Mordant Solution to paint/treat my galv front bumper satin black but I wouldn’t necessarily bother for underbody items. Each to their own though.

Interestingly I did find out about its existence and use on here!

Thanks for the replies Thumbs Up

The open design looks pretty good and as said shows off your shocks and gives good access for cleaning.
The discovery2 isolator is a great tip
