Door Seals and Pads

When I close all the windows and drive I get a really good breeze coming in the door at the bend location. The seal is torn there so I am looking at replacing both front door seals. The consensus on this site seems to be either original or Bearmach. As Bearmach is no longer in business I guess I will go with original.

My question is about the rubber butyl pads that are occasionally mentioned (https://www.lrparts.net/lr028971-butyl-sealing-piece-for-pillar-on-land-rover-defender-comes-as-a-strip-of-8-pieces-prevents-leaks-on-front-of-tub-to-roof.html) and (https://www.lrparts.net/lr028972-pad-rubber-available-in-strips-of-12.html). How do you know where these get installed? I assume they are to push the seal a little further out so it seals the door better? Can the seal be pulled off the door once installed to install these if you find a leak? The only door seals I have ever installed need to be glued into place so not sure how, where and when these strips get installed. Hopefully someone that has done this before can provide some insight. Thanks.

When I saw one of those strips at the bulkhead-window gap, I thought it was a bodge. I didn't even know it had a part number

Thanks, though, I'll get some of them, as with my bodge the seal doesn't sit a tightly as before

2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 Landmark LE Corris Grey

The seals are just a push fit, and can be removed and refitted as necessary.
On the originals there is a metal insert which grips the seam.
Fitting starts at the top and you lightly stretch the seam into place on the bends, trying to avoid kinks.
They are LH and RH fitting.
