Headlights still on warning buzzer
Hello,

As my defender doesn't have one I want to fit a little buzzer to warn me when I open the door but I've left the lights or side lights on.

I think this is pretty easy. Essentially I'm looking to take a tap off the "Sidelights" +ve feed that is used by the dashboard lights, and for my negative on the buzzer connect to the door switch circuit used for the interior lights that I believe is a switchable earth

So far so good... until my "Quiet 12v Buzzers" arrived from amazon today. First I was expecting something the size of a 5p and what I got was 2" diameter. It scared the dog, my neighbours car alarm is quieter, it hurts my ears!

I've since been looking at options and they all seem to pump out a lot of decibels... so I could perhaps step down to 5v and use a buzzer I know is about the right volume, but would prefer 12v so I don't have a voltage regulator in the mix.

My other thought is if I can get a more classy "bong" noise device, but on searching the net, it keeps showing me nice vases with weed symbols

So as I seem unable to find anything appropriate, I thought I'd ask on here... Is there in fact an oem/replacement buzzer I can get from a more recent model (puma?) or has anyone done this and can point me in the direction of something that wont make my ears bleed if I forget to turn off the lights.

A review “I was pleasantly surprised by the noise this "buzzer" makes. I would describe it more as a "two tone chime" than a buzzer.
Easy to wire in and excellent.”

Sounds ( sorry for the pun) just what you need, i.e ignition off, open door and two tone chimes are sounded if lights left on.

Stick some electrical tape across the hole on the front of the buzzer - might quieten it enough for you. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

You could put 12v to the door handle, if you leave your lights on and go to get out the door, you're given a 12v shock. This has the advantage of completely customisable audible alarm since you can alert yourself using what sound you feel would be most effective, a scream or perhaps a cheeky expletive !

My 2015 XS has a warning chime when the headlights are on and the door is opened.

According to the workshop manual, from 2012 models onwards have a warning sound .

I cannot find how this is achieved in the workshop manual despite several searches.
You might want to try the circuit diagrams for the 2012 model onwards if you can access them.

I followed the lights on relay buzzer guide here - https://www.12voltplanet.co.uk/relay-guide.html

I fitted a pin switch through the side of the seat box in contact with the drivers door. Works a treat as wired through the side lights. 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI.

I didn't know that this was a feature on later Pumas and would love to retrofit to my 2010MY.

Nice to learn something new - would be great if a retrofit loom was available (hint hint Martin Very Happy . My subwoofer loom arrived by the way and as always its a lovely bit of kit)
