Hello,
After choosing the worst week ever to be stuck in the back of my Landy, I have now completely lined the cargo space and roof with 2mm Silent Coat, and 10mm Dodo Acoustic Matting. I'm about to refit cargo space carpets, and of course it's going to need a trim in order to fit snuggly - no problem as it's basic shapes and easy to do. What I haven't started yet is the area forward of the bulkhead (ie aroud the seats, foot wells and dash) My plan was to use 4mm silent coat as a base around the gearbox and floor pan, and 2mm over the seat boxes (inside and out) and then again add 10mm of dodo mat, but it occurs to me that these easy to fit premade carpet sets may well not fit without quite a bit of adjustment, so wondering if it's better to: a) use a thinner dodo mat and just use the premade carpet sets b) use the 10mm dodo mat and use a more standard "stretch carpet" roll a la ebay c) go ahead with 10mm and an Exmoor carpet set? This is the carpet set I'm looking at: https://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/interior-trim...t-set.html ![]() Click image to enlarge |

How is it with just the 2mm coat and then carpet in terms of noise?
Occurred to me just now that I can line the inside of the seat boxes to take 2mm out of the overall height, but according to Exmoor's site it should accommodate up to 5mm without too much difficulty, so now I'm thinking line the inside of the boxes and use 5mm closed cell foam on outside under the carpet. The floor pan will be a lot more forgiving than the seat box so will probably use the 10 mm for that |

Last week I glued a section of 20x40mm aluminium angle section (1100mm long) just under the side windows. It is also bolted to the M6 bolt in the center of the side panels.
The difference in vibrations and cabin noise was outstanding. I could not believe how much the side windows were vibrating. Note that I had tried everything imaginable with the felt runners! Here is a poor picture for you to understand. Sorry it is the best I have. Black on black does not really show well. The wood is just a spacer to clamp the aluminum down until the glue cured. ![]() Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

I used a different product to silent coat, sc is a sound deadener ie it stops vibration and drumming in a panel but does little to stop the passage of sound through a panel hence why many use a closed cell foam over the top as the acoustic side. I used teksound which is a deadener and acoustic barrier in one. Sound like the exmoor trim kit has a bit more space. On mine it was fine over all just very tight on the corners and rear/sides of the seat box. |
