[SOLD] 1998 Defender 300tdi 90 Hard top

For sale here is my much loved Defender, a 300tdi 90 Hardtop. Rioja red with black chequer plate wing tops and sills. This Defender had a small fortune spent in it prior to my ownership, and a fair bit more since. My intention was to keep it "forever" and slowly continue with upgrades/additions/restorations, but unfortunately I don't really have the time or space any more

The short version of the ad is this - Excellent mechanical, electrical and structural condition, cosmetically tidy but authentic. New MOT. Few small extras.

The good parts:

This Defender is on its original chassis, which is in very good condition! Previous owners (only two of them!) have had it professionally Waxoyled numerous times. It has had a new rear cross member in recent years. When the old one was removed the chassis had a ton of extra wax sprayed internally as well. It's a genuinely good chassis. There has been some welding done on the offside outrigger. No welds on the rest of the main chassis.

The engine was replaced around 15k miles ago with a 110k mile engine. It pulls cleanly and strongly, with a good clutch and gearbox (high, low, and diff lock all engage as they should. Synchro works fine) All after market silicone hoses on intercooler, turbo, etc.

Full polybush kit.

Steering damper fitted

Recent clutch master and slave replacement along with major service (all oils and filters changed)

ALL the electrics work, and the previous owner spent a fair bit making this happen with a Defender specialist auto electrician. The heater and fan work (new heater matrix under last owner), heated front and rear screens, rear wiper/washer, etc. Recent good quality battery. The internal cab light has been upgraded to an LED unit with selectable red or white modes. At the rear there's a white LED floodlight which is great for reversing in the dark and working at the back of the landy. MudStuff switch clusters in the dash for the rear wiper/washer, heated front screen and rear floodlight, plus one spare switch ready to wire up for whatever you want. DAB radio fitted.

Exmoor trim seats, could do with new upholstery and foam, but they're perfectly usable as they are, not torn to shreds. New cubby box fitted by myself. MUD gear lever tray with extra cupholders and always-on USB charge points. Phone holder on dash in place of the ashtray, works really well. Rubber footwell mats, seat box edge protectors. "Soundproof" footwell linings.

New diesel tank fitted recently, old one was weeping.

It's just had a new rear door, of fully galvanised construction (not ally skinned) and rear quarter panels/cappings. All new seals, hinges, etc for the door. I haven't mounted the spare on the new door, intention was to get a swing-away carrier if I'd been keeping her.

It's also had a new front bumper and wing professionally done on the insurance after I had a small accident. This was done by Reynolds of Rushock, an approved Land Rover repair agent, and they've done a great job!

5 good BF Goodrich AT tyres, plenty of tread on all. Black steel wheels, could do with painting.

The bad parts:

As mentioned the seats have one or two small rips, etc. Upholstery kits are surprisingly cheap and readily available from Exmoor. The drivers seat foam could do with replacing too.

The plastic steering column surround is cracked, new ones are readily available.

All but one mud flap is missing.

It isn't an never was a showpiece restoration. But it could be made into one of that's your thing. Or, put it to work, take it off roading, whatever you fancy - it's ready to go!

The rest:

I have a locking "Ard Case" pedal security box, with two keys, included in the sale. Also a steering wheel lock.

Original tool kit and jack, plus a high lift jack if you want it.

Two Haynes manuals (one tatty one for the workshop, one almost new for best!)

I have a large box of assorted spares, replacements and accessories. Too much to list, but a good few hundred pounds worth of parts, including belts, headlamps, a new seatbelt (the existing driver's seatbelt it tatty where it catches in the door lock), the middle seat which I removed to fit a cubby box, spare seat cushion, etc, etc...

Price wise, I'm now looking for £10000 ono. I know what I paid (which I felt was good value) and I know what's been spent since. It totals more than I'm now asking!

Thank you. She'll do somebody proud, I'm sure. I'll be sad to see it go, but various circumstances make it too difficult to keep.

Besides, I'd like another bike

Where did you get the LED interior light? does it work OK with the alarm unit (door opening etc)

It was installed when I bought the car, but it's from "MUD STUFF"

Works the same as normal, on/off or door-activated and then there's a different switch to choose between red or white light. 1998 300tdi 90 Hard Top. Daily driver, dog bus, shooting wagon and ongoing project!
