Td5 head bung removal (coolant leak)
It looks as though my small coolant leak that's making things pink is coming from the vicinity of the bung plug between 2 ports of the exhaust manifold. Is it possible to replace/re-seal that plug without removing the manifold?

I've not yet opened it up but the last of these photos from elsewhere on the forum suggests that it might be possible...

As far as I know it cannot be done with the manifold in situ. I did that same job on my Disco2 a couple of years back, after putting it off for about ten years, an expected the plug to be a nightmare to remove, being a steel plug in an aluminium head. To my surprise it was only finger tight which is why it leaked, and I think it had been that way more or less since new.

I did a bundle of work on the Disco at the time (injector seals, replaced the warped exhaust manifold and broken studs, fixed the leak from that plug, and generally cleaned up and fettled the engine and engine bay) and it was hugely satisfying. The plug hasn't leaked since, at least not yet.

Certainly not possible if you still have the webbing on the exhaust manifold.
