Hub seal maintenence idiots guide.
I assume the below oil leak is a failed "hub seal"? If so, could someone point me in the direction of an idiots guide to fixing? Embarassed

I think that is only the dust cap that goes over the drive member. Cheap and easy fix.

Yours is a 10 spline (thick flange)? as the dust cap is different size according to the drive member thickness. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Hub oil seal failure spews oil over the back of the wheel and brakes. Your issue is the dust cap as has been said above.

OK, that seems simple enough then! Just fit new caps. They are very perished.

Thank you. Bow down James

A tip for fitting the new ones. These can sometimes split when being pushed on the first time, they are quite tight. To avoid this I find it helpful to drop them into a jug of hot water first to soften the plastic a bit.

Could also be the drive flange gasket.

If buying new hub caps make sure you buy genuine ones, the aftermarket types are very hard and inflexible plastic.

Think I have been cursed by posting in this thread!!!

Just noticed this afternoon that one of the front caps has started spitting oil. Luckily I had a final spare in the parts box (a cheap aftermarket one) but as the engine was nice and warm just sat it on top of the thermostat housing for 10 minutes before easily popping it on in place of the perished original. Thumbs Up
