Optimill steering wheel / boss - is this a modification?
Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered before. (I did several searches, but no luck)

I’m just about to buy a second hand Defender 90 (a Puma) and would like to install the Optimill removable steering wheel/ boss. However, I understand that some insurers regard this as a modification, which seems crazy, given that it’s an anti-theft device.

Does your insurer see it like this? If not, who do you use? A-plan (Thatcham) have told me that Markerstudy would be willing to cover the Optimill (as well as other mods), but would require a tracker …

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Yes, it's a modification. Being an anti-theft device doesn't change that. There are insurers that will accommodate this and A Plan can help (that's who I use). I'd avoid Markerstudy, though. Have a search on here and on the wider net for a flavour of why. Darren

My wife’s insurance for her 90 is with A Plan, and they did not amend the quote for the Optimill setup when I installed it.
