Coolant for TDI 200 Engine
Hi, currently I am using only tap water for my TDI 200 engine as previous owner only use tap water, so my mechanical not dare to use the coolant as he said don't know what are those chemicals inside the coolant, that might damage the related parts.

some said they only use distilled water without any coolant also quite good. I am decided to use a coolant now, I am understand that a traditional green colour is the most suitable for old engine, so my question is what about this PRESTONE COMMAND HEAVY DUTY NITRITE FREE (Yellow colour)? Is this suit our TDI 200 engine? Or any other recommendations by you guys? Thank you.

I wouldn't want to see the corrosion damage inside your engine.
Antifreeze isn't just a antifreeze it's also a corrosion inhibitor.

I use Castrol Radicool.

My old Hynes manual that covers up to 300tdi states “Ethylene glycol-based antifreeze”.

Most of the modern coolants are OAT and whatever abbreviations they may put in.. just keep in mind not all aluminium alloys are equal so what might work for a Japanese motors might not be good for a European one. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
