one for the northerners
guys / gals,

I'm heading north (Edinburgh) for a few hours and figured while I'm there I ought to take a couple of days out and see the sights.
So I'll be driving up the night before and then have meetings during the morning. after that I figure I should stay in the area (Scotland) for a couple of nights - clearly not long enough to enjoy the full NC500 but can anyone suggest a wee road trip that I could try - thinking out in the sticks, perhaps a couple of walks, wild camping, bbq on the beach, mtb possibly. likely to be in the transit rather than the defender as its easier to carry to the bike, quicker and more economical - but happy for someone to convince me otherwise. Thumbs Up

If you can make it to Fort William on the west coast theres some epic MTB / camping spots. If not Glentress from Edinburgh is nice for a wee MTB blast, its been about 10 years since I did any of them though.

wasn't sure if the west coast might be a little optimistic given the time constraints - will need to take a look at google etc.
I was thinking a northerly direction might be more entertaining?

If you can go as far north as dundee/st andrews, my favourite beach which is always super quiet is lunan bay! It is huge and sheltered so water is usually calm (except the odd occasion when the wind comes from the east!)

when you say camping i presume you mean at the adjacent campsite (not on the beach)?
also from what I can see you can't drive onto the beach?

does look nice.

Thumbs Up

So i camped on the beach, in Scotland you have the right to roam so you can camp in nature within reason (to my knowledge-happy to be corrected). And I have only seen cars on the beach a few times, im not sure its allowed.

I doubt you will have time, but the West Coast of Mull is awesome! As well as Iona which is an amazing place in its own right, the coast to the North of Iona is single-track, lovely Defender country, and plenty of remote beach areas where you could camp unseen

I explored the island for the first time properly last year in my Camper. Been a few times before but for climbing trips, or on my motorcycle. I was astounded as to how good the quiet west coast was...

Can recommend many places in St Andrews to eat out - but then again you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere that isn't of quality. Cromars on the other hand is stupidly overrated and so so slllooowww... Stuart

There’s some great cycling in the Trossachs - head for Aberfoyle and spend a day in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park - you can take your Landie into the 3 lochs forest drive where there is also camping - a visit to Stirling Castle is miles better than Edinburgh Castle and only 40 minutes drive down the M9. Plenty of small production distilleries to visit in the Stirling area too.
A run up the west side of Loch Lomond on the A82 is also a “Grand day out” type tour Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Last time I did the west coast of mull, didn't really see the scenery as full chat in Mk2 Escort on tour of mull in the late 80's. Pretty awesome scenery seen on the recce but not on the rally itself......

That's quite a video! Watching it on a big enough screen and all the tilting&panning makes motion sickness kick in quite quickly. But the area seems beautiful, and those reversed waterfalls are quite spectacular with the water running uphill Thumbs Up Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000
