Battery recommendation for 300tdi 110
Hi,
Lately I have had trouble starting the 300tdi in the mornings when it is cold.
As the weather warms up during the day, there does not seem be an issue. I use a CTEK charger regularly to keep the battery topped up and it goes up to stage 6 in no time at all.

When I compare the batteries between the Puma and Tdi, I noticed that the Tdi has a physically smaller 12v 70ah battery vs the Puma's 12v 90ah.

Appreciate recommendations for a good battery for the 300tdi please.

Also the Tdi has nothing holding the battery in place within the compartment under the front passenger seat. Appreciate any guidance on the Part# for the structure that holds the battery in place please.

Thank you! APK

Origiomal battery for the Puma was a varta lfd 90. Superseded by the led95 but still wet battery but with enhanced efb technology. This a leisure /starter battery. A perfect battery for a Puma, and probably a 300 tdi

I have a 300tdi. I was having problems starting in the cold. My truck is not a daily driver and sometimes it could be two or three weeks between me using it. At the time I was waiting to do the cambelt as the truck was new to me but covid kept delaying it, and I was going to do an engine flush/coolant change at the same time as doing the cambelt - unfortunately I was unsure of the state of the coolant so on colder days I liked to start the engine to get some heat into it.

Starting during these cold periods was a bit hit and miss. The battery would soon lose power when cranking and as soon as the turn-over speed dropped I knew it was unlikely to start. I asked on the forum about the glow plugs, but experienced folk said it should start fine even without the preheat of the plugs.

The battery on it was 100ah and I am a big believer in having a powerful battery. I got the battery model number off it and rang a company near me for a price stating I wanted the best I could (within a reasonable price bracket) that was the same physical size. I ended up with a 110ah unit and the difference was night and day! The engine turns over fasterer and starts quickly. This quick starting takes less energy from the battery so a win/win situation.

It used to be where the charger was permanently in the truck and I would use it every 2-3 weeks (or every 2-3 starts). Since the change I have not had to charge the battery and the truck can still go 4 weeks without being started.

The battery only just fits in the box so I think it's about as big as I could get in there. If you want the model number or a photo of it fitted, let me know and I'll do it in the morning.

I got my battery from Alpha Batteries in Rochdale. They have quite a good website and also deliver. They are only a few miles from me and I rang for a price as I would collect which I think saved me a tenner or so.

Does that support the remote vent pipe that the standard LR battery has?

Second part to my question, the Tdi has nothing holding the battery in place within the compartment under the front passenger seat. Appreciate any guidance on the Part# for the structure that holds the battery in place please.

Sorry for the delay. I forgot I have a bulkhead in the back of the 90 so it is positioned over the seats.

I had to make a new clamping bar for my battery as the original was sitting too high on this battery. The one I had in before this was not as tall as the terminals sat above the top of the battery where on this they recess below the top face I did use the original screws. Note how close to the top of the battery box this is.

This battery is a 663. It's a nordstar heavy duty commercial, from Alpha batteries in Rochdale.

I think it was £95 collected last October.

That is the setup I had, but the battery I used raised it too high which is why I had to replace it with a piece of flat bar. I only replaced the angle, the hooks were still used.

In your first pic, you have the items to secure the battery down, the metal bar that goes across the top and the two lengths that hook into the slotted holes each side of the battery, this is what holds my Oddessy battery from moving about Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

I see what you mean. I felt something was missing as I was comparing it to the Puma setup. Will give it a try, thank you! APK
