United Kingdom 2014 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
BAS Intercooler
Hi chaps.

So i have myself the 170bhp for my 2.2 puma from BAS sitting on my desk. I also have the BAS intercooler in the garage ready to fit. I have read the few of the guides on the intercooler install guides and it seems like quiet a big job.

Any tips or hints. I have read it can take 1-4 hours....

Also i didnt get the silicon hose kit so using the existing hoses

Thanks

Have you got Air Con? I fitted a BAS intercooler this last weekend and you will need to move the condenser forward to accommodate. Other that that, it’s pretty straight forward. You might as well get hold of a silicon hose kit, if yours haven’t split yet it’s only a matter of time.

Yep. Have AC

Did think about the silicon hose kit but just recently had a replacement hose so thought I would wait until it perishes a bit before going silicon

I got the intercooler fitted last week, very pleased even without a map it pulls better and sounds better.
I did get my local garage to blank the egr and turn it off, we found a slit intercooler pipe so upgraded when fitting.
Now tempted to get a map now black smoke has gone.

These things can cost thousands Rolling with laughter

I think they are a great upgrade. I got mind from BAS at the Peterborough LR show. BAS fitted it for free while I had a look around. (I did book it in with them before the show). Definitely worth getting the hoses done at the same time IMHO.

I didn't even realise they are only 20 minutes from me so just turned up a few weeks ago and they had just got some ready for fitting. Thumbs Up

I'm afraid I can't help with tips, as I had my BAS170+intercooler+silicone hoses fitted by Pete Bell himself. It is certainly not easy but mostly access issues. It took Pete about 2 hours from memory (it was 7 years ago) and certainly a knack to doing it. Any issues Pete is very good over the phone.

I would suggest fitting silicone hoses as the orginals are well know for failing.

Good luck!! The results are great!! Thumbs Up James

I’ve done a BAS IC replacement on my 2.2 110 with aircon, inc hoses and main coolant radiator at the same time, so happy to provide any advice needed.

I would say 60 -90 mins max,inc a cup of tea if using existing hoses.

Where in Essex are you ? Pm me if you don’t want to share publicly, I may be near by and possibly be able to help you do it Smile
