Expedition roof rack cover
I've got a 110 with the expedition (basket style) roof rack. Got a load of camping gear, tent, chairs, camp bed etc etc that would be great on the roof to free up space inside. However I could do without this lot being either bug splattered or worse soaking wet after a journey. Not a good start to a trip.

My first thoughts are a massive tarp laid in the roof rack, then loaded up, then folded over and strapped down. Cheap and cheerful and would hopefully work to a degree.

But then I wondered if there are any better alternatives..... Kind of like an elasticated trailer cover that is made for the rack. I've seen those roof rack bags, but they are a bit small for some.of my bigger items.

Ideas appreciated.

A company that makes lorry sidings or trailer covers will be able to make you a tonneau that will snugly fit over your roof rack. You will have to make sure that it has multiple straps going over the top of it to prevent it billowing or flapping when driving.

Yep, that’s the sort of thing. Masai 4x4 do something even better, but I’ve contacted them and they are out of stock and say they doubt they’ll be getting more.

I’m almost tempted to custom make my own out of PVC coated fabric. Christ knows what it will come out like. Sewing is not one of my fortes.

Good plan. The sewing is not difficult, don't eyeball it, sketch out the stick lines first and you'll be OK. When it comes to the tie downs look at brass press fit eyelets. A boat chandler should have a kit to do the job. Fit more eyelets then you think you need . Better to have too many tie down positions than too few.
