Has anyone tried one of these:
www.x-eng.co.uk/X-BrakeDef.asp Is it any good? Does anyone know if it will fit a Puma? Cheers, Matt |

Lots of people like and get on well with them. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

think it has a different bracket for the PUMA and Ive heard you may have to remove the centre silencer to fit it to a puma, best contact the suppliers/manufacturers DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy Last edited by LR90XS2011 on 10th Oct 2011 5:56am. Edited 2 times in total |

was told permanently but as I say best to ask Xeng, alternatively I expect someone will come along and respond whom knows for sure or has one fitted to a PUMA DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Yeah but I've got a "slow machine gun" noise when coasting to a halt and the German dealer is pants... Praying its the handbrake... |

Hang on chap...£200 is a fair amount of money for something you aren't 100% sure will cure it, won't it also affect your warranty?
Have you checked that it isn't you propshaft that isn't making the noise? |

Good point - I am giving the dealer another chance (I have marked the drum to make sure he really does replace it) and will tell him to check the propshaft as well but if the banging continues the only way to get to the bottom of things is to try the disc. I am hoping it won't affect the warranty on most other parts (don't they have to prove I have caused a fault?) ... still got some budget left anyway - wife wanted a Volvo - yeuch ![]() |

Speak to Simon at X Eng. He is extremely helpful and backs his gear. We had a slight problem with some of his kit 3 years after fitting it and giving it some abuse. He replaced the items without quibble, so I think Simon is a good bloke to do business with.
We have his brakes fitted to our Disco and 300 TDi 110. Not so far to our Puma but that is a matter of time. Nicked from his website

Mail Si at X Eng,, Have known and dealt with him for 8 years or so, since X-Eng more or less started,
The X brake is a good bit of kit,, do a search on here, will come up a few times, have 3 of them fitted at present to various vehicles, but not done the Puma's as yet,, Tend to agree with Woody thought, you should not have to be spending out, to sort a problem, the dealer should fix,, PS,, Nowt wrong with a proper Volvo ![]() ![]() Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Cheers! Spoke to Simon - fantastic bloke - helped me do a calculation of prop speed - 8 revolutions per second at 15 mph - exactly matches banging noise. So problem should be brake drum, prop shaft or transfer box. He suggested taking drum off (and maybe reversing it) and seeing if banging is still there - might do this. Then I can point the dealer in the right direction ![]() |

Yup...
Firstly take rear propshaft off and go for a drive (obviously stick it in diff lock) If noise is still there, then take handbrake drum off. Don't take both off at the same time otherwise you won't be any wiser ![]() |
