Reading the website I think they are used as a extra fixing and don't in themselves stop the lifting of the bonnet.

I suppose they'd be good if you could fix a big rubber bumper on the top with a security fixing to stop it going vertical.

Whats to stop somebody coming along with a 6mm allen key and a 13mm spanner and undoing the bolt?

Use shear nuts..

However, even that could probably be defeated by getting the bonnet vertical and pulling until the hinge pin pops out of the section on the bulkhead.
What we need is something bolted to the bulkhead (with security fixings) that blocks the open section of the outer hinge (the bit that the bonnet hinge lifts out of).
In addition to this, the use of shear nuts on the bonnet hinge plate itself should make removing the bonnet almost impossible without lots of time or special tools.

i've been thinking about bolting a steel cable under the bonnet at the back edge somewhere [even rivit it to a rib] and then to the bulkhead so you can still open the bonnet fully. if you know laptop security it would be a bit like the kensington locks.

it won't stop the determined thief but it should stop the opportunist thief!

thoughts? BM52
