Service kits: Britpart vs OEM vs Genuine
Had a search but can’t find anything regarding this….

Looking to do a service on my 07 defender puma, first time ever servicing a car myself and she had a big service (service b I think) last year.
Had anyone any views on which kits are good and which are bad, which ones to go with and ones to stay away from. I have seen a Brit part kit with the oil for 70£ delivered so happy to do that and save myself some money there.

Also any tips and things to look for when servicing myself would be great if anyone could share.

If anyone is local to Barnsley and would let me buy some of their time to talk me through it that would be great also Question

I use Advanced Factors - sponsor on here. Good price and decent Mahle stuff or equivalent.

For oil I get Castrol from Costco

Avoid the Mahle oil filters, they have paper ends instead of plastic. Avoid the Mann oil filters, they have incorrect bore size and don’t seat properly. Genuine are not that expensive and you know it’ll be right. You can probably save a couple of quid by using a Ford branded one for a Transit.

Make sure your air filter box lid is reseated properly after putting a new filter in. It is very easy to miss the hooks under the wing.

Don’t forget to give the prop shafts a bit of grease. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

not britpart, was once sent a britpart sump plug as part of a Genuine kit!! and it cost me 7 litres of castrol as the seal basically didnt, I now buy ford engine parts from my local ford dealer DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

We buy parts for our Rivus workshops from ECP but for service parts find that OEM service items are as cheap if not more so, and you know they are correct.

For non service items there are some good aftermarket cost effective solutions and in many cases they are better than OEM

From my experience Dealers try to keep basic services competitive to stop you using an independent garage, they make their margins on other items and repairs. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

I use oil filter from Purflux, the herringbone form gives more filtration area.

I had a britpart kit for the l322 range rover and everything was perfect.

but for the defender i have only ordered parts here and there individually - sump plug which was fine, and oil filter which looks almost identical to the genuine ford one when sat side by side. 1953 80"

Genuine gets my vote, because it’s critical parts you don’t want issues to crop up with.
It’s just annoying and a pain to possibly have problems crop up that needn't be a problem.

I would can use Ford Genuine parts at times too, that would be good enough as well.

Engine oil in mine is Fuchs, and axles + T box. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧
