Fuel cap leak
Hi all.

Any ideas how to solve this?

I haven't overfilled it and I'm keen to get it fixed as it's a big risk to other road users and my fuel account.

Is it just a case of new cap or does it just need a rebuild kit.

Mine was not leaking that badly. Replaced cap and it has been fine.
Old cap was disassembled. It has a rubber coated disc spring to provide the sealing. If this has worn coating or spring temper was poor it will leak. I can’t see a meaningful repair. Bending disc spring will work for a while but would make the temper worse. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

I've been through about 3 different sellers in trying to find one that actually seals the cap so it keeps the fuel in, still not found one that does the job yet as every one has leaked.

If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Humm sounds like a new one is required.

My old fuel caps leaked and i got one from ebay and that did the job, no leaks, then optimall fuel cap came out for the Tdi and i got one, that leaked on the second fill up, so i went back to the one i bought and it has not leaked once in all the time i have had it, i don't fill it up to the brim, i always leave a space

I would prefer an original one but this cap does the job nicely Very Happy 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.
