2015 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Orkney Grey

Easier access side step

My father-in-law is getting on and now struggles to get in and out of my Defender. I have 'Fire and Ice' side steps which are quite narrow and high. Is there anything out there that can hook on to the side of the steps to add a 2nd, lower step to make it all a bit easier?

I thought about one of those caravan steps, but am concerned it would just fall over (he's a awkward b*ggar).

Paddocks quick fit tubular steps sit quite a bit lower than the sill, may be worth a look. Not sure exactly how they compare to what you already have though?

I have fitted the genuine side steps, but they are so awkward to use as steps.
Their main purpose are as other cars door stoppers.
And I think I have bent my sill upwards, as door is now rubbing after a small mishap, thanks to how they attach to the body. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I have a couple of these in the cabin on my boat , VERY STRONG and fold away nice , would fit in pocket on the back of the seat I would think

These are generally good to have for reaching the roof. And they store flat so no problem carrying onboard.

I'm worried he'll just kick that over, especially on uneven ground. I was thinking of something that could hook onto the existing step in some way.

I have carried one of these for years, and latterly it was the only way my late mother could get in or out of the Defender. They are surprisingly solid and stable, although I would never let her get in or out unaided - I was always present to stabilise the step or her.

The very low cost and convenience would, I think, make it a sensible option to try. If it doesn't work, you won't have broken the bank. They are actually extremely useful fo various maintenance activities under the bonnet as well.
