TDV6 vs 3.2 TDCI conversion
I see from IRB's website they have a long list of engine conversions available for the Defender. Has anyone driven a 2.7/3.0 TDV6 one yet? Interested in the pros and cons against a 3.2 TDCI?

AJ133 5.0 NA and Supercharged
TDV6 - 2.7 and 3.0
TDV8 - 3.6 and 4.4
Tdci 3.2 (and special build versions of the 2.2 and 2.4) 1951 80" S1 2.0
1995 110 300TDI
1995 90 300TDI

My concern with the tdv6/tdv8 route is the amount of sensors needed to make them run properly.
Sensors which don't work with the Defender and which there are no facility to add.

The 3.2 is a much simpler setup and although not exactly a straight swap it is certainly more suited to the Defender IMHO

Happy to be proved wrong though! Thumbs Up

The 3.0Tdv6 has taken the priority over my 3.2 Tdci Conversion... mainly as I want to finally finish my own build.

Its currently on my hot test running as there is a lot of work to do on the rig before it even sees a vehicle! All of the wiring integration work is done on the rig - before vehicle assembly.

In the background is a 3.2... and by the looks of it, there will be a AJ133 5.0SC very soon! Especially as it looks like we finally have sorted out UK/European rights to a ECU that can actually properly controll both the Tdv6 and the 5.0 SC (will also run a Tdv8). This is proper OEM spec ECU and not the bodge solutions thats are currently out! Some of these would struggle to run a lawn mower - let alone a Tdv6!

Ian, whilst I'm a long way away from you, I'm always interested in proper "professional" O.E. quality mechanical upgrades, so I'm certainly interested in what you're doing. Coming from "the land of V8s", I suppose a Supecharged 375KW RRS engine would be the ultimate for me, but the 3.0l V6 would obviously make for very satisfying Defender driving.
I hope you are able to provide regular written & visual updates of your conversions as you progress.
Thanks, Pickles.

I'm sure LRM fitted a TDV8 into a defender years ago.

The only down side was the modifications required to the bulkhead to fit the thing in. Resulting in little or no room between the transmission tunnel and the clutch pedal and reduced space in the passenger footwell too. Russell

Did anyone ever manage to fit a TDV8 Auto into a defender?
