Offside (driver) wing mirror behaviour
My offside wing mirror occasionally appears to go dark, almost black, for no apparent reason. I have not managed to link the effect with temperature i.e. mirror heating pad, with sunlight i.e. some form of self dipping effect, with aircon settings or any other seemingly random events. There is no film on the glass. The mirror reverts to clear in its own time and the near side mirror does not exhibit the same phenomenon...............am I imagining this (although the wife has also commented on the same thing) ?

My wing mirrors are auto-dimming. Maybe there's a fault causing it to dim when it shouldn't.

When it happens do you notice about 1/4 inch around the mirror that isn't dark?

It’s the auto dimming which I think isn’t that clever (might be a bit dim!), mine occasionally do the same Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Ah, thankyou both. I'm amazed as I didn't knowingly spec it specifically, although I do have Clearview. Yes, I do get the 1/4" clear band around the mirror when it "dims". At this time of year in North East Aberdeenshire the sun (!) is very low and I do tend to drive on the same roads so I am going to assume that it is indeed activated by the sun - I shall watch the near side mirror more closely as the season changes, but I do agree with Tim that the ratio of dimness over visibility is a bit excessive.

I noticed my OS mirror dimming and my non clearview interior mirror dimming this evening on the way home when the sun was very low and directly behind me. I'm sure I read somewhere that it is only the drivers side mirror that does this, the passenger side one is just a standard glass Thumbs Up Cheers Ian

I have been out this afternoon and both door mirrors are change to a dark green in certain lighting conditions. The LR has blind spot assist, I suspect the dimming function comes with the glass in these mirrors.
