Defender 90 TDi GREEN Instrument lights filters
Hi folk

Continuing to modify my Defender 90 (1994) and today wanted to change my instrument lights to LED's but I've hit a brick wall.

My newly purchased LED's will not go down the barrel of the bulb holder.

It would appear that all my gauges have a green filter fitted to them internally and I can't remove them without a lot of work. The white body of the lamp holder is threaded at the gauge case end and held in place by thread of the internally fitted filter too.

Also ... how do I remove the Speedo /Tacho cable?? ... must be simple but I'm not seeing it! ??

Many thanks in anticipation

I had exactly the same issue and, if I remember rightly, I just found alternative bulbs - in white, which fitted better.

For the Speedo cable, you just have to pinch two sides of the white casing and it pops off. Kind of like the safety lids on bottles. It can be awkward to get your hand in to do it though, depending on the size of your mitts. Donald

Yea, I’m sorry, I just can’t remember any of the details. I “think” it was an eBay supplier, whose listing mentioned being compatible with the filters in the housings. Donald

I used these, and they are very good indeed.

Hi Danny

Thanks very much for your reply and link ... presuming you've got the same issue as me?

I'll give them a call tomorrow morning Smile

Evening all

Didn't think finding good fitting LED's was going to be so hard (IMO) and having now tried with three different types and modifying several holders I have now solved the issue.

With absolutely NO problems I have bought these and fitted these:

Still thinking of removing the green filters but need to be sure of my plan before taking the plunge as there will be no turning back once I start!

Thanks to all who have replied to my post.

Today I ordered a new replacement Voltmeter from from Caerbont Automotive Instruments Ltd (Smiths Instruments)

A point to be aware if you order any of the original Land Rover Defender gauges they STILL come fitted with the green filter!

Delivery 6-8 weeks from order payment date. 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994)

Great, exactly what I have been looking for - how many do you need for the full cluster?

Hi again Karl

LED's required are TWO for the Speedo and ONE for each gauge.

Ebay seller sells then in packs of two and make an offer, don't need to pay the advertised price Very Happy 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994)
