Stainless Steel Brake Pistons
Hello All.

I am going to be sorting out the rear brakes on Miffy and I am keen to do it right this time, so stainless pistons etc.

In a stainless piston refurb kit as the metal retaining rings also stainless steel or another metal?

I believe that the pistons in the rear callipers of a 2003 Defender are 46mm in diameter. Can someone confirm?

Which kit to purchase?

Many thanks Thumbs Up

I can't confirm the piston size, but I did all mine recently and I don't believe the retainers for the seals are stainless.
I figured if the retainer corrodes it might stay in place long term! I was missing half my retainers, but the calipers did look like they'd spent some time in the middle of the Atlantic Sad
I got all my pistons and seals from Luke at LOF...he was very helpful.
Cheers
Al

Worth a call to Luke if you get stuck as he wasn’t showing stock when I got mine, but still managed to sort me out Wink

I've just completed something similar, having had 4 rebuilt calipers with stainless steel pistons, the pistons came from Zeus Enginering, a cracking family run firm (https://www.zeus.uk.com/index.php), while a set of lightly used calipers came from Lucari (https://www.lucari-solutions.co.uk/) Pioneer 4x4 (https://www.pioneer4x4.com/) supplied a full set of lines for all 4 corners.

And whilst the company that did the refurbishment did a nice job of strip, clean, paint, and fit the pistons and seals, their return packing was woefull, and customer service follwing this was not good (IMHO) Mad Zaid-M

Zeus customer service was awesome, I'd keep buying from them, but the quality is just so good, you will only ever need one set!

Thanks for the comment about my images Thumbs Up much appreciated. Zaid-M

G wagen owning friends of mine swear by Big Red for their brake caliper overhauls.

Hi, more than four years ago I installed budget Britpart stainless caliper set for all brakes. Know what you want to say, but some of their parts are really good. There were calipers, seals, metal rings and special red coloured grease in the set. No any problem in spite of hard Russian conditions( anti ice winter reagent on the road).
