United Kingdom 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Aintree Green
I'm going to get an electric car through work; I've been thinking about it for a while, but the recent increases in fuel prices has been the deciding factor.

I love my defender and won't sell it; but doing ~90% of my mileage in an electric car (assuming ~£220 per month after tax) would effectively pay for itself (assuming diesel stays above £1.50 a litre - which I think it will).

With the green agenda, I just don't see fuel prices dropping back down to 'normal levels' anytime soon. 2011 CSW XS 90

It’s all over the news that fuel is over £2L. Hardly breaking news when I reported it many months ago. I paid £2:12 on the motorway 4 weeks ago. There is definitely an obvious sign that people are driving slower at motorway speeds and of course the lorry’s are now overtaken those. Neutral

The news is, of course, reporting the average price. There's got to be some above and below for that to work. Darren

I am yet to see the forecourts in Aberdeen roll over the £2 mark, although I'm sure it is not far away... Embarassed Stuart

yeah service station on the A1 Washington has hit over the £2 marker this week.
Petrol seems to have jumped up rapidly over the last two weeks there, there was a 20p difference, now its practically down to 3p difference, and well into the 1.80s. Diesel is very close to the 1.90s here now, and i recon it will be well into that, next week. last time i filled the defender up, it cost me 86 quid, from a quarter of a tank. I had to shout at the lass, behind the counter while i was filling up, asking is there actually anything going in the tank? because the way it was clocking. the lass sped the pump up for me, just to keep the shock down. I said that's the most i have put in a car, since owning a car. She said its shocking isn't it. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

i recon if things keep going we wont be far off that, by august. Also i think this will put us into a recession along with the electric and gas.
work had a few plans to extent, but that's been threw a side, and they are returning work to japan. So its not looking good for me sadly Sad Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well it won’t be too long before the credit card bills come in, then all the other bills, then for many that time of the year when kids need new school uniforms and before long the utility bills are increased for the autumn.

I fear for many looking at the roads at the moment they are living in a state of avoidance.

You can easy see why some manufacturers have openly said that they are looking to increase prices, increase profits because they know full well there is going to be a ceiling where X number of people won’t even be able to think about getting a new car let alone a JLR product.

No point the press and politicians moaning that the forecourts aren’t passing on the 5p per litre savings before, even if they did at the moment it won’t make a blind bit of difference especially when usage final drops off and they then need to charge more to keep the share holders happy.

And let’s not even mention that the government will spend even more of our money on the autumn cold, I mean next covid vaccine top up (as if Phizer hasn’t profiteered enough already), there will be even less money in the pot to help the country.

Well today it was an effort to get diesel, local ASDA was 185.7l. Noticed one pump was out, went through the process of putting the card in, pin etc but pump wouldn’t unlock, out of diesel completely. It was funny in a way as it was all diesel vehicles filling up, all looking at each other losing the head at the pump.

Morrison’s across the road from it again 185.7l managed to get some this time but their pumps were running dry, a few out of action. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

I noticed a few times that my petrol station, never had all the pumps on line, only the last few weeks they have started again. I am filling the defender up this morning, and i bet its about 10p more than it was last time i filled up. Every where now is well over the 1.80s, petrol i think is still just in the 1.70s and i mean only just. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
