thats odd- I would have thought the two adaptors you need for the conversion would space it out additionally as well.

I'm still going to be teasing Timbo LOL. Still got a couple moths of acquiring the kit then I'll simply steam ahead of you Rolling with laughter

Small photo dump previous days work.

Changed the sump for a later 3UZ rear bowl sump to clear the axle.

Built up the heads again, really tedious job.

Got the RH cams in the ported heads.

and the old drivetrain is out, thank god for that bit because it was a pain in the arse . Rolling with laughter

(note the collapsed wheel on the crane, I definitley wasn't scared at all....)

Waiting on water pump and timing kit to arrive then the engine will be pretty much fully dressed, then after that i'll be waiting for my loom to arrive.

Afternoon all,

Got on with dropping the tank yesterday - dead easy job.

Cars looking pretty underneath which is great and no holes in the tank - Very nice.

Shame to see all the dirt in there though which I believe to be caused by two things; the TD5 fuel (Air) system, and the crack/ perishing breather for the tank.

Possible leak as well on the overflow pipe too.

Should have seen my face getting rid of all that liquid gold. I would have used it in my partners defender but we've already had one pump go down from this exact thing and I simply don't want another to go. Rolling with laughter

So here you can see me "measuring" up some dimensions for the pickup I'll be making.

You wouldn't have thought I'd be a machinist, aye? Rolling with laughter

(I forgot to bring my vernier with me so this is not my final solution)

Oh, and I started dressing the engine up again, looks snazzy

Not done much at all again as I've been very busy with work for the last 3/4 weeks.

But good news. My ECU and loom have arrived back from Pheonix Engine Management. Must say I'm very impressed with the quality of work.

I have got a couple of tasks before I can get the loom installed and test it. Fingers crossed I get some free time soon.

So, since I've gone down the standalone route, I've got to do a couple of things. First task is making a bracket/ housing for the intake temperature sensor to mount to. And, as per usual I'm going to totally over complicate the job.

Pheonix/ Link provided me with a little piece of aluminium designed to be welded to the throttle body or manifold... I Don't want to do that.

I've came up with a couple of designs and both should in theory work however its going to come down to finding some scrap material lying around at work and more importantly what looks the best.

First one is bracket that will bolt between the manifold and throttle body. Meaning the sensor will be behind the Throttle body.

Second one is simply a round piece that will require some silicone hose. And will place the sensor Infront of the throttle body.

Either way both solutions will stop any PCV system crap from caking up the sensor. (if the engine requires one, can't remember).

I'm also wasting the time I should be spending on the car on other nice bits, going to be making a Aluminium "V8" Badge that I can stick onto the manifold.... Very nice.

Made some great progress today and finally got chance to start the engine up.

(Outside the vehicle…)

So next task will be making an alignment tool for the clutch kit and then bolting it all together to drop it into the car.

Over the moon with today, such a sigh of relief finally getting it running.
