200tdi Clutch Failing?
1991 200tdi 110. Clutch pedal had loads of play when I bought it and when I finally got round to adjusting it (free play and pedal height) the clutch bite was right at the very top of the pedal travel.

It has been juddering when pulling away (probably worse in reverse). It is not slipping but just a bit of a press on the pedal and it does. This led me to the conclusion that the clutch was shot so I have it booked in for replacement next week.

Looking through service records it had a new clutch and release arm at the same time as it's engine recon in Jul 2017. it has only done about 30k since then.

I would have thought it would last longer than that. Could it be anything else? I would rather not have it all pulled out only to find it may not actually be the clutch.

I suppose it could have had a hard life so it may be about time for replacement but thoughts on anything else I could check would be appreciated.

Juddering and slipping easily with little pedal pressure could be due to contamination maybe an oil leak into the bell housing. Is the wading plug fitted, is there any oil leaking from the drain hole?

Disregard the clutch age/milage despite a new clutch being fitted previously. There are clutches and proper clutches The one fitted could be cheap junk or badly installed and you might have been lucky to get 30k.

Good point. I shall have a look in the morning.

If it does end up having it replaced, it is booked to have LOF PowerSpec one.

Never felt the need or justification for fitting a HD or 'performance' clutch to a stock vehicle despite enthusiastic driving on and off road. A good quality standard spec unit has always proven more than adequate and never left me thinking it needs improvement.
