Permanet live - Simple for some - Not for me!
Hi folk

My newly fitted radio keeps dumping its setting and has become a PITA to keep re-setting.

I've now learned that the radio's memory needs a permanent power source ... so my radio is in the area above the cigarette lighter / rear wiper switch.

Can anyone please tell me where I can pick up a constant rather than switched live please.

From your profile, I assume that you are referring to a 300tdi.
Although I never owned a 300, I would have assumed that you already have a permanent live behind the cigarette lighter cover.
My MY88 has it from the factory, and it is a base spec model. I think the colour coding did not change, so you should be looking for a purple wire. The courtesy light, also permanent live, as well as the supply for the hazard switch should be purple.

Edit: The interior light and the hazard light are on different fuses. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I managed to find the below schematic for a MY97.

The memory supply to the radio, permanent feed, the wire is purple and is through Fuse 2 (which is the same fuse as the interior light).

The switchable power supply, which is what you already have is through Fuse 7, and wire colour is white/red.

Ensure that you have both switching supply and permanent feed to the radio. This way the radio switches off when you switch off from the ignition key, but keep a very small amount to power to the radio for memory purpose.

On my 300Tdi with a Pioneer radio I had the same problem and the solution was to just swap the 2 input wires around. Not sure where I got the informatiin from but the saved settings were not dumped. Jeff

Morning Dinnu - Thank you very much for the two posts and diagram - much appreciated!

Hopefully that will sort my issue out, just got to wait for it to stop raining! Smile

Check the radio. But most will have a red and yellow wire.
Usually the red will connect to white/red on the landy and yellow connects to purple. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
