week #9
new turbos, new set of sensors and .... failure
the repair was unsuccessful
in the certain driving conditions (high gear, low speed, low revs) check engine, red exclamation mark, reduced performance message appears and there is no power, no reaction to throttle pedal
this is so disappointing
Sad

I am looking for support how to reject the car. Can anyone help? 2021 Defender 90 D250

Sounds like a sensor and software update type issue

Not unheard of that the dealers have no idea what they are doing Mike

The exact situation will differ in each country, but you should look into rights as a consumer - they may say something about rejecting a faulty car. In the UK, the Consumer Rights Act (2015) deals rejecting a car. More here: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/tips-advice/...-explained

I would write a letter to the head person at your dealer, detailing out the situation from the beginning and stating that you formally wish to reject the car and have your money returned. Point out the length of time it's been at the dealer (10 weeks) and that they seem no closer to resolving the problem.

The dealer will probably try and resist your attempt to reject, but you should stand your ground.

they reported yesterday loose ground pin in engine harness
after repairing it the red exclamation mark disappeared
amber check engine light is still on; they can trigger it on demand - high gear, low speed, low revs then gas to the floor....
ECU orders turbines to blow ca. 2 bar and they give 0.5 only
turbines are new so they are not the root cause
now they talk about actuators and vacuum lines
I recall I told them on day 1 - i hear new noise from the engine bay, please check it; they didn't... until now 2021 Defender 90 D250

thank you!
I will follow that suggestion. I found consumer representative office here and will call them tomorrow.
Basically we have 2 type of customer "protection":
1. manufacturers warranty where JLR Solihull is in play through the authorised dealers; protection is weak because there is no deadline stated for how long they can repair the car
2. sellers warranty; works only for individual customers (my case), not available for companies; sellers are avoiding that as much as they can..
by default when the car goes to the workshop the option 1 is executed
I need to figure out how to escape from option 1 and execute option 2
I am afraid we will end up in the court with the dealer... 2021 Defender 90 D250

After almost 3 months (without 1 week) they called me today saying the car is repaired and ready.
New turbos, sensors + bunch of unnecessary replacements...
The root cause was faulty engine harness, which they replaced.
I can go there and pick up my car early January only so can't tell right now if the repair is successful.
Hopefully it is. 2021 Defender 90 D250

I went through a very similar situation. I had the d240 and it developed chronic electrical faults, window rattles, door rattles and the pivi pro blanked just about every day. The rejection was fairly simple and I was sure I wouldn’t choose another. For some reason I had a brain glitch and I accepted an offer from the dealer for a d250 hse. It arrived many weeks later and in the first week the drivers door started rattling and the surround sound packed up. Week 4, I was stuck in a car park and it wouldn’t start. Jlr assist came and got it going. I gave it some serious thought and chanced it on eBay. It sold quickly and I was more than happy that I had money back plus a considerable amount. The car was our weekend transport and we have other vehicles so it wasn’t so bad. Prices are so overinflated I’m going to wait before I buy another car but It will not be a defender. If anyone here is in the same boat I can assure you that whilst the lack of supply and high demand is strong you can almost certainly achieve money back plus thousands more than you paid. I’ve gone back to jlr time after time each and time say no more but this time I can’t see me in another. I’m going to hang on and take a peep at the grenadier.

For the records - after 3.5 months repair at the dealer, I picked my 90 this afternoon.
Problem root cause - faulty ground pin/wire in the engine harness.... Above and beyond Very Happy
Drive home was fantastic, this is so nice car to drive. When it drives.
