United Kingdom 1999 Defender 90 300 Tdi CSW Rioja Red
My 1999 90 CSW 300 TDI
So I'm new to the forums.

I've owned her for just over a month and loved every moment of it. I've wanted one since I was about 16/17, finally this year with lockdown I committed as have no plans to travel abroad or anything for the foreseeable.

The other week me and a mate fitted some Boost Alloys and BF Goodrich All Terrains from his crashed Defender 90.

Overall plan is to keep it standard, or at least things that were OEM options at the time my Defender was made. A standard Defender is a pretty rare site nowadays.

Unusually, mine a 300 TDI on a T reg which should be a TD5. It seems that this could potentially be one of the last civilian 300s registered on U.K. roads? I know they did keep 300 engine production going strictly for the MOD until the early 2000s?

It was fully resprayed about 10 or so years ago in the original Rioja Red metallic paint. Now just to keep on top of it and keep it looking good.

The next plan is to repaint the checker plate again in satin black, as that’s just starting to fade and slightly wear off in places.

I've driven about 1400 miles in it so far in the month I’ve owned it and she’s not missed a beat yet. Very high miles for me and now I've gotten into the swing of things will be considerably less. She is my daily vehicle though, but my commute to work is only 5 miles.

A few pics

A couple of days after I bought it at my mate's workshop. He's an expert on Landy's (has multiple ones) and has been so helpful in confirming I hadn’t bought a dog lol.

Ryan,

That’s one lovely looking County 300TDi, don’t think I’ve seen such a clean and good looking example. Enjoy it but as you say keep it original, and enjoy the smiles every time you drive it,,

👍👍

Great looking vehicle...keep it standard, too much bling spoils them and most buyers don't want heavily modified vehicles if its ever sold.
Love the first picture Thumbs Up

Lovely CSW. Keep it up.
Just a personal opinion, as I find the freestyle rims suits a 300 more than boosts. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks very much.

Unfortunately The freestyle alloys were in need of quite a bit of refurbishment, I was quoted between £80 to £100 an alloy. They had a bubbling coating and it kinda let the truck down tbh. I think these ones had been hastily fitted to mine in order to sell it and that it probably had better alloys on it originally.

The Boost Alloys are literally like brand new. Absolutely immaculate shape. The BF Goodrich tyres is what I really wanted though just to give it that bit more presence. The original tyres were absolutely horrible all warn differently, they were unbalanced and all different brands/tread patterns. Difference these made when taking it out on road was amazing much smoother ride.

These Boosts are era appropriate apparently though. I thought they were from the TD5 era, but apparently not? Think they Began offering them as an option in around 1996/1997?

Yes they were around in that era I believe but for last of the 300tdi Discovery's and the alloy option for 110s as they are rated for the extra weight, freestyles aren't so we're only fitted to 90s, though I am sure you could have specced boosts on a 90 if you wanted.

At least I think that's correct Question

Yes, that's right. The Freestyle 'pack' included the wheels (technically called Tornado's), anti-roll bars and a few other bits and pieces but when that pack was specified for a 110 the wheels were changed to Boosts because of the weight rating.

I don't think Boosts made their way onto 90's from the factory until the TD5 era, although I'd be happy to stand corrected on that.

Regardless of all that though, it's your Land Rover and they look very smart. Anyway, changing wheels is one of the most easily reversed mods possible, should you or anybody else in the future wish to do so. Darren
