Leaving aside the patronising language, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Not sure how it stands up that this generation Defender "wouldn't have been able to make the investment returns that a new platform dictates" and yet a single new nameplate in the pillar will?

As to being dismissive of anything released to investors having to be accurate ~ "Automaker to Pay $40 Million for Misleading Investors" https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2019-196

Not sure what the point of putting the 26/27 Defender on to MLA would be. Its a transitionary platform meant to cover the bases of ICE, hybrid and BEV. All the major manufacturers have moved on at a pace that seems to have caught JLR out.

Quote from February 2021: "On the investor call, Mardell [Chief Financial Officer] said that JLR had decided that cars on the platform [MLA] , including the XJ, would not meet the company’s ambition to lead on technology and design."

No patronising intended - apols, I'll try again;
Defender 90/110/130/V8 was always planned to be off D7u with modifications, other more modern architectures were not available in time to be considered.
Next gen RR and RRS are moving off D7U to a new flexi architecture - currently called MLA I think, time will tell if its outdated or not.
Any press speculation on future models is just that - it doesn't seem to make sense to do a high end derivative of Defender off a RR platform, it would be a huge effort for very small volumes - but that too is speculation! 2015 90 XS SW Bowler

LR products are now only for the rich.

Proven reliability - no problem, have a fleet of back up vehicles

Capability- no problem, have a back up fleet for every occasion and a helicopter

Value for money - no problem, too rich to care.

I think that sums up JLR’s attitude these days. Just need the Harry Einfield (I am considerable richer than yow) character to sell their cars.
