OMG MAF cleaned and WOW
Apologies for text speak, but wow! Just cleaned the MAF on my 58 2.4 with 40k and it has made an amazing improvement to drivability and smoothness of throttle response. Wish I’d done it sooner 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance
S3 V8 Lightweight - in the garage being ignored #newchassistime
S3 lightweight - 2nd car 24V fire risk with a full tilt and the windscreen down
S1 80" - first car fun - 75mph in neutral downhill once #wobblesallround

All started with a MAF fault code...
got this Liqui Moly Air Flow Sensor cleanse from Amazon

Removed wire, took sensor out by removing torx screws (covered hole in air box as was doing outside), then followed cleaner instructions of spray it on and allow to dry! The just put it back, did up the screws and put the connector back on, simple!! Sensor insides looked dirty and discoloured before, nice and clean afterwards. Drive is much improved, so am convinced it was worth the £5 cleaner and 10mins time 👍 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

I used brake cleaner on mine before. Works well. Sometimes especially after a few years replacement is worth it. But for periodic maintenance cleaning works well. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Really made a difference in mine - much smoother revving, no kangaroo time down the track from the house to the road, quicker pick up. So for me yes it was a noticeable difference. I am pleasantly surprised as I just did as I got a MAF fault code and didn't want another one! 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

I normally clean my MAF & MAP sensors with good quality brake cleaner 3-4 times a year, as said above I find it makes a vast improvement to the drivability 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon

Yes, spray it in the airflow direction that is on the MAF housing and also re-fit in the same way.
(There is an arrow marking on the housing.)
A sheet of A4 paper or similar is useful to sit it on in a clean dry space.
I tend to leave it 10 mins or so, so a tea break is ideal the re-fit.

Some masking tape over any openings is ideal too, to make sure nothing gets in.
Keeping everything clean is the game and don't touch with fingers.

I do tend to do mine along with the MAP sensor too, but the MAP does have just a little more involved.

I have heard on a Transit forum of some people using the brake cleaner along with a clean new toothbrush to aide removal of contaminants but it's not something I've risked myself as the parts are delicate.

You can of course use dedicated MAF cleaner as already suggested if you wanted, only they do tend to charge more for it. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Thought the small can of MAF cleaner smelt just like my large can of brake cleaner! Thanks will use that in the future as it’s cheaper Very Happy 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

on the MAP sensor was revolting!
Had a look on the top of the intercooler on my 2.4 and couldn’t find that third sensor so maybe that’s a 2.2 thing. 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance
