Well, I was having a good weekend with the Landy up until this afternoon!
Took her shooting yesterday which involves an hour drive each way through some cracking countryside. A great run on the A and B roads and then a bit of mild off road action, plus some appreciative comments from some of the other blokes.
Then today a short motorway jaunt over to the in-laws place where I parked it up next to a series and an older defender owned by my father-in-law, and a disco 3 belonging to his son.
Brother in law came in at one point and said "you know your Defender is leaking?"
Sure enough, there was some horrible black sticky mess under the driver's side. A sniff test confirmed it was diesel, which was dissolving the waxoyl off the tank giving it the mucky black look. It's smeared all over the bottom of the tank, but the source seems to one of the welded seams towards the front.
So, I've ordered a new tank which I'll have to fit next weekend!
Oh, and I noticed the head lining is pulling away all round the sunroof, and both front door seals are letting in water. And the steering wheel still points off centre! 1998 300tdi 90 Hard Top. Daily driver, dog bus, shooting wagon and ongoing project!
