Differential trouble
Hi guys, I'm after some general advice regarding my rear differential. I have a late 300tdi 110 with a Salisbury rear axle. About 120,000 miles. The diff has been noisy for some time, making tapping and clicking noises. Has been commented on by mechanics when other work was done. I took it to a local independent LR specialist this afternoon for investigation, expecting to need a new diff if it wasn't repairable, but was told the diff in the Salisbury axle is hard to replace, and might involve replacing the axle.

I know next to nothing about differentials, but I'm surprised to hear this is such a major job. I was expecting to pay £500ish, but am I looking at thousands? Any advice gratefully received.

Might be worth a second opinion.

They may not have the special tool that clamps and squashes the diff case. once installed the diff should come out as any none Salisbury.
