Slow until it goes through a puddle

I have a 2007 defender 90 2.4 puma. I realised the car wasn’t as quick as it normally is. A friend of mine washed my car and the engine bay and the car returned to its normal power. 3 days later it became slow again. Either jet wash the engine or drive it through a deep puddle and it goes back to normal.

No fault codes. New crank shaft sensor. Wiring harness has been removed and checked all continuity, all appears fine.

Does that mean you need to clean it twice weekly? Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…
