Oh what a feeling...
Anyone else surprised that Toyota are top in the USA?

Check out the top selling car brands by country in H1-21. Toyota brand is the most popular in 33 of the 82 markets where I got data (it’s likely the leader in most of the African, Oceanic, Central American markets). Then comes Volkswagen brand leading in 10 countries (9 Europeans) https://t.co/jYcoJjX1N0 https://twitter.com/lovecarindustry/status...64928?s=20

And Brasil... come on you can do better.

I guess I am a bit but perhaps the US has finally woken up to the fact that Toyota make the best and most reliable vehicles. My 25 year old Land Cruiser is still going strong. It’s the one vehicle I have owned where I get in it and feel confident it would get me anywhere without any drama.

In recent years I've become acutely aware of Toyota product placement in a lot of US tv series that I watch. But in one particular series - Warehouse 13 - it became so intrusive, with the characters gushing at length over features of the Prius, I stopped watching it. And I will never buy a Prius.

Market forces surely? Could the great majority of Russian consumers (and I'm of an age where I can appreciate the odd juxtaposition of that statement!) afford to consider other more expensive brands?

Toyota - never owned one, but once drove a 4.2L diesel Land Cruiser for a couple of days on a TV 'road test' - what a machine. Given the size of the vehicle it was an extremely capable and fast machine - though I wasn't paying for the fuel!

If I go over 75mph in my Defender I know all about it; in the Land Cruiser I once hit 3 figures (apols) and hardly noticed. Donald

There’s still a lot patriotism in car buying isn’t there? Even when companies have long been in foreign hands. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

when i was at Knockhill ( scotland race circuit) over the weekend i fell in love with their new toyota yaris Sports model. Would make a good replacement to the 306, once those come down in price. But before then, its a 2 year waiting list Shocked 36k plus, Not sure if i want to pay that for a car Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I wouldn’t hold your breath for them coming down in price, they are already being revered like Delta Intergrales, Escort Cosworth, Celica GT4s etc. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I've got my doubts about Toyota being top in New Zealand. A couple of years ago I spent 2 months there and it seemed like half the cars were Suzuki Swifts.

It's top selling in H1 (Jan to Jun) 2021 ~ that doesn't mean there are more Toyotas on the road. So both the graphic and your recollection may be correct.
