I remember reading about this car in Street Machine all those years ago and watching Top Gear when they covered it, well it's now up for auction at Car and Classic https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/197...ast-8bEqL4 John Dodds who built the car really was an excentric Englishman and I don't think we will ever see anything like this again Confused

Car and Classic Video

Top Gear video from 1998

Same registration number on both the Facebook car and the car and classics car .

I wonder if he got his knuckles rapped from Rolls Royce over the grille on the 1st version?

He did, they took him to court over it, they mention it in the video. He drove the car to court and "broke down" Wink in Fleet street in front of all the newspaper offices and then when the judge said he had a cavalier attitude he turned up to court on a white horse. It sounds like he was absolutely bat- Censored crazy but in the good way Rolling with laughter Cheers Ian

I remember that too, one of the most revolting creations in the history of motoring, what a waste of a Merlin! The sort of thing which sadly, you cannot "un-see".

I'm prepared to accept however that it is possibly the ultimate monument to British eccentricity, and I hope it finds an appreciative new home (and remains out of sight there).

Worth remembering that Rolls themselves had a run-in with Sizaire Berwick around 1914 over the design of the grille, and if my memory serves me right it was established that SB had registered the design and RR hadn't. Eventually a settlement was reached which resulted in the SB grille gaining a shallow "V"-shaped profile, RR's version remaining flat.

I love the way that they casually jump in a 700hp home built car and don't even both with seat belts Laughing Darren

Been following these mad Swedish guys fitting a "similar" engine in a more modern car. Slight better looking end result but still not without problems along the way.
