International HS 2.8 TGV Engine Or 300 tdi Stroke kit?
Afternoon Guys,

Has anyone experienced the International HS 2.8 TGV Engine?

Are the improvements significant over 300tdi?

I'm quiet intreasted in a 300tdi stroke kit but would like would also like any feedback...

Thanks Working towards Carry on camping!

I have drove one in a 90 and didnt think much of it Big Cry Best off sticking with a nice recon 300tdi engine bits are alot easier and cheaper to get hold of aswell as theres quite a few differences on parts Thumbs Up CSK Automotive

Second what Chris says.....

I had this same dilemma when I rebuilt my Defender 2 years ago. In the end decided to go with 300Tdi, but I got a Turners recom unit with one of their P&P heads. A VGT turbo from Bell Auto Services, Twisted Intercooler, then tuned the injection pump. Really pleased with it as I feel I have all the benfits of a standard 300tdi for parts and servicing and reliability, but a lot more grunt.

On paper the 2.8 has 135bhp / 277 ft lb of torque, which I guess is probably down to the variable vane turbo more the capacity!

Alex 1976 I guess your tweaked 300 has more go? Working towards Carry on camping!

Never had it on a dyno but I reckon I am running about the same as a TGV. The VGT makes a huge difference as you get the turbo and torque kicking in so low and then sucj a flat power curve right through the revs. Pulls like the proverbial train.

i run two TGVs from M&D and love them both, far better than any Tdi in my experience. will chirp 33" tyres on an auto pulling away and the change up to 2nd if you boot it with the kickdown set for a harsh change.

the other TGV runs 37" fedimas through an auto.

torque in std is the same as my td5 JE Eng stage 1 remap used to be!

most parts that are likley to fail are same as 300tdi. exception driver belt and alt. Cheers

JST - Have you tuned your TGV's or do you run them in standard tune?

tuned.

std on the truck cab for 4 years, have just (Feb) tweaked the pump
std on challenge truck for 1 year, have just (Jul) tweaked the pump

tweaks done with EGT guage

both run non std intercoolers.

truck cab runs an Allisport std size intercooler, challenge truck runs a large unknown make intercooler

both vehicles run Allsiport rads. truck cab is std size one, challenge truck has a V8 one on the rear on elec fans.

both run at 80deg C. Cheers

Ok, So modified Tgv's look impressive and likewise tuned 300s too .....
but has any one built a stroked 300tdi using Tgv crank, pistons and rods?

Such a kit is available Cool Working towards Carry on camping!

Anyone know whether they still make the 2.8 TGV, looking at their website they only have a MaxxForce 2.8H listed:
