Isn't that the philosophy that JLR completely lost sight of? There must only be a handful of Defenders left that haven't been modified in some way, large or small by their owners. At least one manufacturer has actually listened to their target market. Defender 90XS SW

While the Grenadier appeals to me, probably more than any vehicle that is on sale today, I do wonder about a Design and Innovation award.

The vehicle is entirely conventional, even old fashioned. 30 years ago it wouldn't have got much attention, because there were loads of similar 4x4s on sale. Today it is different in a world full of compromised SUVs. It seems to be built very robustly and hopefully the engineering is as good as it appears to be. If this is the case it will be a great vehicle.

Does rebelling against automotive fashion really qualify for a Design and Innovation award though?
