TPMS - dumb question re using spare wheel
Hi all,

if I rotate my tyres using the spare wheel, would I need to rotate the TPMS sensors also?

Does the spare wheel have a TPMS sensor?

sorry if these are dumb questions

If your spare has a silver/grey valve stem then it has the sensor, if it’s black then no, the sensors are not linked to a particular tyre.
I had to put my spare on the front near side wheel last year. I put it on the hub, torqqued it up and drove away and the dash alarm went off in a few seconds……….. the app though is still telling me I have a puncture 6 months later! I know of at least one 110 where the spare doesn’t show on the dash readout but mine does, with a recommended pressure of 50 psi with the stupid alarm going off at 48psi so even winter temperatures set off the low pressure warning here……… good job I have a decent electric tyre pump. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

According to page 428 of the Defender Handbook, "The spare wheel pressure is not monitored"

MartinF - have a check, sure does in my June 2020 D240 First Edition. The car I saw it wasn’t monitored in was a 2021 D250 SE but the wheel/tyre did have a sensor as it had the grey/silver valve stem.

Very odd! My 110 HSE MY2022 is consistent with the sentence I found in the handbook.

Although my valve stems are all the same they are black rather than silver.

That's not entirely correct, I just fitted a set of LR steel wheels yesterday and this valve shown in the photo is a TPMS valve, it's black and is a rubber stem Thumbs Up

Also just been out and had a look, mine's a MY2022 and it doesn't have the pressure reading on the dash for the spare Confused

My one doesn’t show the tyre pressure for the spare, but having put my spare on, the car picked up the new wheel within a mile of driving. 23.5MY 90 D250 X-Dynamic SE, Pangea Green

thank you all for the replies. I do have a sensor on my spare wheel which is silver and the display does show its pressure. Was more worried about if the sensors need to stay in the same positions to give accurate readings.

Here is my display:
